This Sicilian winery has been making wine since the 80s but their family has a history of wine making that extends nearly 160 years. Their goal in starting Donnafugata was to elevate the world’s perception of Sicilian wine. Needless to say, they’ve done that. They make several wines that showcase the local rock star grape: Nero D’Avola. Other indigenous grapes are used for blending along with global varieties. The Tancredi is a blend of Nero D’Avola and Cabernet along with some Tannat and other varieties in very small quantities. On the nose, this wine is ripe and with red and black fruits, herbs, chocolate, and tobacco. On the palate it is a full bodied wine with balanced tannin and acidity. If you like a bigger bolder style of wine, this is one that will fit the bill. It goes great with grilled meats.
