Liquid Farms Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2018

We had the benefit of visiting the Liquid Farms tasting room in late 2019. It is a delightful place and we had the pleasure of having our wines poured by an Australian gal that was beyond delightful. The experience was great and the wines matched if not exceeded it. Liquid Farms makes killer pinot and chardonnay in and around the Santa Barbara / central coast area. This is a “cooler” climate thanks to the orientation of the valleys running east/west which allows for morning fog, and evening breezes from the ocean to cool down the vineyards. In this region you can find different renditions of the same grape in a way that is less common than in Northern California wine regions. This Liquid Farms Santa Barbara Pinot Noir is a great pinot. somewhat dainty in color in the glass, the nose pops with red raspberry, cherry, clove, and cinnamon. It is vinified with a small amount of stems which adds a little more tannic structure and green characteristics to the wine. This wine also sees very little oak. On the palate the wine is dry, fruit forward, and while it is very ripe, it has great acidity that carries it along. This is a fantastic pinot and for this wine maker it is considered their entry-level wine, but don’t be fooled.
