How To Cook Corned Beef

Corned beef is my favorite preparation of beef. Hands down, my favorite meal is corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. This is the meal I would choose to eat if it were my last. If you’ve never made corned beef, this will be a useful guide for you! Dont stress here we go!

This is so simple. Here we go.

CROCK POT:
Place a rinsed 3-4 lb corned beef brisket (fat side up) in a slow cooker on top of onions, sprinkle with one teaspoon of pickling spices, add enough broth or water to come halfway up the meat, and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours. Add potatoes and carrots halfway through, then cabbage in the last 1-2 hours, and rest the meat 10-15 minutes before slicing against the grain for tender, flavorful results.

OVEN:
Rinse a 3-4 lb corned beef brisket, pat dry, place fat side up in a roasting pan or foil-lined dish, sprinkle with the a teaspoon of pickling spices, add about 1 cup of water, beer, or broth to the pan, cover tightly with foil, and bake at 325–350°F for about 1 hour per pound (3–4 hours total) until fork-tender. Add potatoes, carrots, and cabbage wedges in the last 1–1½ hours (after uncovering for browning if desired), then rest the meat 10–15 minutes before slicing against the grain for juicy, flavorful results.

SMOKER:
Pastrami is smoked Corned Beef….. But whatever, smoke low and slow 205-215F until internal temp reaches 205. rest before slicing.

PRO TIP: When your corned beef is done, let it rest for a few minutes, then brush the top with a mixture of equal parts yellow mustard, and brown sugar. Then put the corned beef with the glaze under the oven broiler until it bubbles and starts to caramelize but not burn. Watch closely. Burned sugar is a bummer.
